Plane Crazy Minnie: Scene 19 (NO BACKGROUND MUSIC)

The sound clip below is the revised audio of scene 19 of the cartoon “Plane Crazy Mickey“. I chose this scene from the 6-23 of Plane Crazy scenes described in class to simply expound upon what I wanted I had previously created. This was my second attempt to recreate each action as I seen them occur in the form of sound. For scene 19 I added more to the current audio I had to make the scene more dense with consistent appropriate audio. I also removed the The End Of Trunchbull  background music from the Matilda soundtrack to emphasize the sounds I used for each action made by Minnie. Although this scene was only 10 seconds long, I tried to blend all the sounds evenly throughout the clip. Many of the sound effects I used in this audio clip came from the SoundBilble website which is a FREE SOURCE site.

Although a part of this whole assignment is to play but in a constructive manner which allows you to learn while you work and tinker. I found this assignment to be one of the most interesting for many reason. I enjoyed trying to sync my animated sounds with the actions of Micky and Minnie. I felt that my skills were really tested where sound and video were concerned. I had to align multiple tracks which all made sense to me. Each sound I imported I tithe Pro Tools 10 program I used all made sense. It was fun! Constructive fun. My learning experience was nostalgic mainly because what I did for this assignment is something I’m good at and used to doing outside of class.

LIST OF SOUNDS USED IN SCENE 19

  1. Typhoon (used throughout the entire clip to provide the wind element in the scene)
  2. Bomb Dropping (used this sound to emphasize Minnie falling from the plane)
  3. Female Screaming (used to emphasize Minnies emotion to falling from a plane)
  4. Slide whistle (used to emphasize Minnie flipping upside down)
  5. Slide Whistle (used to emphasize the when Minnie spins over correctly seated in the parachute)
  6. Slide whistle (used to emphasize Minnie pulled the cord to her parachute)
  7. Cloth Flaps (used to emphasize the parachute was fully  opened)
  8. Rope Tension (used to emphasize the swinging motion Minnie made while in the parachute)

METAPHORIC SOUND

Out of all the sounds I used I found that only the slide whistle did not fit into the natural sound category. Although the slide whistle is a actual sound made from a musical device in the context of what I used it for does not exist. When people flip there is not a slide whistle sound that is heard as that happens.

  1. Slide whistle (used to emphasize the when Minnie spins over correctly seated in the parachute)

NATURAL SOUND

The list of sounds below are what I felt fell into the category of natural sounds. the typhoon sound I used was an actual typhoon sound that can be heard during a typhoon as high winds pass. While minnie was screaming I used the Bomb Dropping sound effect to just add to the notion that she was falling from the sky. The female screaming sound that I used can also be heard when a female screams in fright from something. The cloth flaps I used to emphasize the opening of the parachute can also be hard from a real parachute as it opens in the air. Last, the rope tension sound that I used can actually be heard from a real rope that in under a lot of stress due to a heavy object

  1. Typhoon (used throughout the entire clip to provide the wind element in the scene)
  2. Female Screaming (used to emphasize Minnies emotion to falling from a plane)
  3. Cloth Flaps (used to emphasize the parachute was fully  opened)
  4. Rope Tension (used to emphasize the swinging motion Minnie made while in the parachute)
  5. Bomb Dropping (used this sound to emphasize Minnie falling from the plane)

Plane Crazy Mickey: Revised Scene 19

The sound clip below is the revised audio of scene 19 of the cartoon “Plane Crazy Mickey“. This was my second attempt to recreate each action as I seen them occur in the form of sound. For scene 19 I added more to the current audio I had to make the scene more dense with consistent appropriate audio. This scene was in actuality 10 seconds long with constant actions. I tried to blend all the sounds evenly throughout this audio clip and after listening to it a couple of times I feel  that the blending went pretty well but I Ill let you be the judge.

Although a part of this whole assignment is to play but in a constructive manner which allows you to learn while you work and tinker. I found this assignment to be one of the most interesting for many reason. I enjoyed trying to sync my animated sounds with the actions of Micky and Minnie. LIST OF SOUNDS USED IN SCENE 19 (Although I had to use another application to recreate the sound I did order the sounds in the way they were presented in the audio)

  1. Typhoon (used throughout the entire clip to provide the wind element in the scene)
  2. Matilida soundtrack (throughout the entire sound clip)
  3. Female Screaming (used to emphasize Minnies emotion to falling from a plane)
  4. Slide Whistle (used to emphasize the when Minnie spins over correctly seated in the parachute)
  5. Slide whistle (used to emphasize Minnie pulled the cord to her parachute)
  6. Rope Tension (used to emphasize the swinging motion Minnie made while in the parachute)
  7. Towels (used to emphasize the parachute was fully  opened)

SOUND CLIP: SECTION 19

19. 5:00-5:09 Minnie is free falling to earth when she realizes she might pop her pantaloons into a parachute. Minnie begins to float down gently.

I also used many sounds from SoundBilble within this sound clip. In compliation with those sounds I also used the sounds from the two videos below.

Plane Crazy from 1:45 to 2:15

This post will be the explanation of the scenes from 1:45 to 2:15. Each 3 second scene will explained with facts.

1:45-1:48- Mickey picks up the propeller and puts it on the plane. The sound that we can use is more a knock if time right or even a pole knocked on a wall.

1:48-1:51- Mickey takes footsteps and walks at the back of the plane. We can use regular footsteps and just make it go more quicker like Mickey does on the screen.

1:51-1:54- Mickey picks up the wheels of the plane and moves it to his right. This can be tricky if someone can do a whistle of a noise fast and swallowing to make the sound.

1:54-1:57- Mickey picks up the back of the plane and jumps up and down with emotional. Jumping steps can be include in this part of the scene.

1:57-2:00- A chicken comes into the scene makes noise with his feet. An object of any kind used on a table for noise.

2:00- 2:03- The chicken is hitting the floor and mickey comes in silently. Finger tapping on a table can be used for that.

2:03- 2:06- Mickey pulls the feathers out of the chicken. Pulling something like a bottle or object making noise seems to fit it well on this scene.

2:06- 2:09- Chicken runs away and Mickey comes back. footsteps again for both characters.

2:09- 2:12- Mickey jumps into the plane and moves the chicken’s feathers on the back of the plane. Moving an object could make the noise on the chicken feathers.

2:12- 2:15- Mickey moves and Minnie comes into the scene. Walking steps and making a shocking noise of a person.

We should also use this style from Bugs Bunny which is pretty good in my opinion. At first when I did this project I thought it would be a little boring, but it was a good post to do. It taught me how to really dig deep into the observation of the sound design being displayed in Plane Crazy. I really understand now how it is and hope that in the future I can continue to these types of work.

Mickey and Minnie Take Flight: Audio

Blow is my 30 second audio clip story board that I will use while making the audio sounds for, “Plane Crazy Mickey Mouse“. I have cut the 30 second clip into 3 second narrations that will give me an idea of the instruments I will need. This also can be looked as a sound walk through as you go from one 3 second to the next. In each of the 3 seconds I found there are about 4 sounds in each. Although there are some sounds that remain throughout the audio remake I will not count them into my narration. Those sounds are the wind, engine of the plane, and the flaps of the plane rocking side to side in the wind.

THREE SECOND CLIP NARRATIONS:

4:45 – 4:48

1. Minnie falls into plane the sky as the plane cushions her fall as it sinks downward like elastic

2. Micky laughs at Minnie as she looks frightened.

3. Mickey then puckers his lips at Minnie for a kiss. She shakes her head no.

4:49 – 4:52

4. Mickey grabs her and takes a kiss

5. Minnie struggles to resist as she is being kissed by Mickey until she breaks free

4:53 – 4:56

6. Minnie frowns at Mickey then slaps Mickey one time in his face.

4:57 – 5:00

7.  She turns around and walks off the rear of the metal plane. Mickey walks off the plan and stays in mid air looking at Minnie fall. Minnie is falling fast.

5:01 – 5:08

8. Minnie makes a slow spin from right side up to upside down while falling. Minnie realizes her pantyhose parachute and pulls it and It opens. Minnie does another spin right side up. Minnie rocks back and forth.

5:09 – 5:12

9. Micky realizes that he is out of the plane Turns around to run back to it and his suspenders get caught on the rear of the plane.

5:13 – 5:15

10. He gets sprung up. Holds on to the rear of the plan. The plan nose dives spiraling back to earth.
