What is makes something a compelling sound? This is simply based on taste right? Or are there qualities that make some sounds more compelling than others?
Above is the famous scene from Empire Strikes Back in which Luke Skywalker confronts Darth Vader for the first time. It is a great scene, very dramatic, and it has an incredibly rich soundtrack.
I want you to find a video with compelling sound and embed it in a blog post. Describe all the elements you hear. List them out. Think of adjectives might use to describe the qualities of the recording.
Turn off the sound and watch the picture. Describe what is lost while watching without sound. What information is lost. What emotion. Tone.
Listen to the recording with your eyes closed. What information can you discern without watching? What can you not understand? Did you hear things differently when you had your eyes closed? How?
